About Backrooms: SCP 173

SCP 173 turns this Backrooms maze into a chase without a combat solution. Escape mode asks for three keys and an exit; survival mode changes the goal to enduring the pursuit. Flashlight batteries and running energy limit how long you can rely on the same escape tactic.

How to Play Backrooms: SCP 173

Choose the mode, search the corridors and keep the sculpture from closing the distance. In escape mode, connect the key search to the exit route. Use the eye-opening control when the game calls for it.

Escape Mode and Survival Mode

Choose the objective before planning a route. Escape mode asks you to collect three keys and reach the exit. In survival mode there is no matching exit objective; the task is to continue evading the sculpture. A key-search route is therefore useful in the first mode, while preserving room to move is the central concern in the second.

Light, Energy and Navigation

Collect batteries as the flashlight weakens and use F to operate it. The light helps you read a corridor, but long runs consume energy, so save a useful route for the moment you need to create distance. Use E to take an item and Space for the eye-opening control.

In escape mode, remember the direction of the exit while looking for the keys. After collecting the last one, you can then focus on returning to the exit rather than beginning a second search for it under pressure.

Practical Tips

  • Remember the route to the exit while collecting keys, so the final pickup does not leave you searching from scratch.
  • Avoid spending your running energy before you have identified a useful escape corridor.
